Santo Domingo

Oaxaca’s most majestic church, boasts an exquisitely carved baroque facade. Nearly every inch of the interior is adorned with detailed gilt designs, creating a three-dimensional relief that surrounds a multitude of painted figures. The Rosary Chapel, constructed in the 18th century, stands out for its elaborate design. The entire church radiates a magical warmth during evening Mass, illuminated by candlelight.Constructed primarily between 1570 and 1608, Santo Domingo served as part of the city’s Dominican monastery.
