Founded in Madrid in 1846 by Spanish leather craftsmen, Loewe gained prominence in 1876 when Enrique Loewe joined. It became popular in the early 20th century, with figures like Queen Victoria Eugenie and Alfonso XIII endorsing the brand. Loewe was the Purveyor of the Royal Household of Spain. Famous figures including Ernest Hemingway, Ava Gardner, and Sophia Loren also promoted the brand. Today, it is one of the most successful international luxury brands.
